Ban Ki-moon Encourages President Touadera

The new President of the Central African Republic had talks with the UN Secretary General on June 10 in New York.

The ongoing peace process in the Central African Republic spearheaded by President Faustin Archange Touadéra will in the coming days witness a new impetus considering the advice and encouragement the Secretary General of the United Nations Organisation (UNO), Ban Ki-moon on June 10, 2016 in New York.

Ban Ki-moon had talks with President Touadéra in his office with focus on the Central African Republic’s leader resolve to fully address root causes of the country’s crisis in an inclusive spirit with the hallmark being dialogue with representatives  of armed groups.

“The Secretary-General welcomed the President's outreach to the armed groups and his vision for a comprehensive process to address the underlying reasons that had driven them to take up arms,” UN News Centre quoted Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, as saying in a statement. Ban Ki-moon, the statement further disclosed, welcomed the resolve of President Touadéra and his government to pursue this process in a spirit of national reconciliation and inclusiveness, guided by the principles and recommendations of the Bangui Forum.

To armed groups, Ban Ki-moon urged them to seize the opportunity afforded by the President's initiative to bring peace and stability to the country by engaging in it in good faith.
