This was the object of a round table conference organized by the Pierre de Coubertin National Committee on Thursday.
Members of the sports family have been urged to uphold fair play in the practice and administration of sports. The call was made by the Pierre de Coubertin National Committee during a roundtable conference on Thursday on the theme of fair play to mark this year’s edition of Olympic focus.
The conference consisted of panel presentations and a question and answer session between the panelists and the public. There were four main presentations on how to understand the notion of fair play, the context of fair play in the Cameroon sports movement, fair play in relation to doping and the prescription of the law concerning fair play.
According to the president of the Pierre de Coubertin National committee, Evele Malik said the theme of fair play was chosen because it transcends every sports competition yet it was treated with levity in Cameroon. Reason why instead of organizing sports activities as in the past three editions, they decided to organize a conference so as to educate the public on the essence of fair play.
He announced that a popular day for sports and the Olympic ideal will be celebrated in Cameroon on October 27th while the school Olympic days will be organized upon the resumption of schools in November. The event also saw the presentation of trophies to some distinguished sports actors. The trophy for rayonant sports figures went to the president of the Cameroon boxing federation, Bertrand Mendouga, the president of the Cameroon judo federation, Alain Kingue, the weightlifting, wrestling and volleyball federations for qualifying athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The director of project at the Cameroon cycling federation, François Njele received a special award as an example of fair play for having accepted to work with the current executive of the federation despite having been excluded from the elections as incumbent president of the federation.
