Responsible Parental Care

No child ever asks to be born. Even those born out of wedlock will always remind their parents especially those parents that negate their parenthood that they did not ask to be born.

The good thing about children is however that they are generally loved by their parents including parents that do not have the means to bring them up. Under normal circumstances, parents give birth to children to fulfil the natural instincts of getting a child. All parents have parental responsibility over their children. It is a legal right and responsibility for them to provide a home for their children, protect and maintain them, discipline them, provide education for them, ensure medical care and look after their property.

In the days past where there were no schools or when schools were rare, a child was born to grow to maturity with the parents, build his house (for male children) and get married while girls once mature were given out for marriage. Children spent time with their parents till they got married. But with the coming of western schools or education, things took a different turn.

A child is born to grow up to school age where the parents begin to share their responsibility with the school administration. Within a leap year, parents have the chance to stay exclusively with their children of school age for basically four months. From the logical point of view, the school administration is expected to know the child better than the parents considering the length of time the child stays with them.

Holidays provide occasion for parents and children to enjoy the warmth of the family. Unfortunately, some parents, because of the expenditure they incur during this period, consider holidays as a burden. They are not at ease simply because children stay at home, eat at will and maybe accidentally destroy things in the house.

Many parents will prefer sending their children to other family relations in order to minimise cost. This particular decision is seen by many as an open exhibition of irresponsible parenthood. Children belong to their parents who brought them to the World. It is therefore an obligation for parents to assume their responsibility.
