Feutcheu football club maintained their hegemony over the League 2 championship despite being held back to a zero-all-tie by Colombe of Sangmelima on the 24th day of play over the weekend. The club named after its founder Feutcheu Joseph has a comfortable four point lead at the helm of the classification table with 45 points.
They are followed by newly promoted Stade Renard of Melong with 41 points. However Stade Renard still stands a chance of further narrowing the gap separating them from the League leaders as they have got one delayed match still to play. Fovu of Baham is third with 40 points, barely two points ahead of AS Matelots in the fourth position with 38 points.
While the top quartet jostle for points to accede to the League 1 championship, all hope is lost for Njalla Quan Academy at the tail end of the championship with barely seven points in 23 outings thereby establishing a record of the worst performance so far in the League 2 championship. AS Etoa Meki, PWD Bamenda and Dynamic of Buea are also gliding towards the edge of the precipice with 24 and 21 points recorded so far respectively.
AS Etoa is the first team below the relegation line with 24 points, same as PWD Bamenda equally on 24 points but separated by goal difference. Dynamic of Buea in the last but one position has 21 points and could still leap out of the danger zone as they are five points away from the first team above the relegation line, Panthere Security of Garoua with 26 points.
As the top quartet fight for ascension to the League 1 championship and the bottom placed teams fight against relegation to the lower regional leagues, it makes good business for teams in the middle of the classification table who may be tempted to sell matches since they are already sure of conserving the places in the League 2 championship.
