The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Dr. Rebecca Kadaga yesterday July 6, 2016 delivered a confidential message from President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda to the Prime Minister, Philemon Yang intended for the Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya. The Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, who arrived Cameroon on Tuesday evening, told reporters at the Star Building after Wednesday’s audience with the Prime Minister.

The East African country is soliciting Cameroon’s support for the position of the African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson. The Rt. Hon. She said Uganda is presenting a solid candidate (Speciosa Wandira-Kasibwe) given that she was the first female Vice President in African, former cabinet minister, a surgeon and holder of a Doctorate Degree in Economic Planning and member of the panel of AU wise people.

“We think that we are presenting a strong candidate to galvanise the programmes of African Union on the Agenda 2063. I think she is good and we would like to recommend her candidature to all member States of African Union”, the Ugandan envoy noted. “We are in a good relationship with the people and government of Cameroon; so we look forward to support from Cameroon”, she added. The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda was accompanied to the Star Building by the Deputy Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Hon. Emilia Monjowa Lifaka.
