The U-20 Lions will play the return leg last round qualifiers against Libya on Sunday .
The U-20 Lions will leave the country today for the Tunisian capital, Tunis where they are supposed to take on Libya on Sunday in the return leg last round qualifiers for the 20th edition of the African Cup of Nations in that category to take place next year in Zambia.
The match was supposed to take place in Tripoli but owing to the security concerns in that country, Libya plays its home games in Tunisia. In the away leg a fortnight ago in Bafoussam, the junior lions took a good option towards qualification by trouncing the junior knights of the Mediterranean 3-0.
Despite the convincing victory, the coach of the U-20 Lions is not climbing on his high horse, claiming there was still work to do with the team. “They are young players. That’s why you must have noticed they make errors. But we have to be patient and continue working to enable them learn from their mistakes.
To win 3-0 is good but this does not mean we have reached the expected level,” said team coach Ashu Bessong. A view corroborated by the team captain, Samuel Oum who declared that “We are going to continue working hard to step up intensity and give the best of ourselves so as to obtain qualification which for now is not yet achieved.”
Prior to their departure for Tunisia, the focus of the training was on endurance under heat given that the match is Tunis is going to be taking place under a hot weather with temperatures to range from 35 to 40°C.
It was as such that the U-20 Lions trained under hot sun at 3 p.m. so as to get acquainted to the weather situation. “It will be a different game to be played under a high temperature as opposed to the first match which played in the cold weather of the West Region,” said Ashu Bessong prior to their departure.
