The Super-scale Magistrate was elected to the African Court on Human and People’s Rights during the just ended 27th Conference of the African Union that held in Kigali, Rwanda.
Cameroon’s flag flew high in Kigali, Rwanda on July 14, 2016, following the election of Mrs. Ntyam Ondo Suzanne Mengue, a Super-scale Magistrate, as judge of the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, during the just ended 27th Conference of the African Union General Assembly. The Cameroonian Supreme Court judge recorded a landslide victory with 42 votes as against out of 52.
With 34 years of working experience as Magistrate, the 62-year old native of Ntem Valley Division in the South Region attributes her success to Almighty God and the Head of State, President Paul Biya and government for supporting her candidature and carrying out high- level campaign before the election. “I know I have a delicate mission as a judge in the prestigious African court because Cameroon plays a major role in Central Africa. As the government honoured me by supporting my candidacy, I have a duty to work hard to maintain the position of Cameroon”, she told Cameroon Tribune as colleagues and friends thronged her office on Monday July 25, to congratulate her.
Apart from being a judge since, Mrs Mengue is also an advocate of human rights as member of the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms (NCHRF) for over a decade. Her love for human rights stems from her education, religious background as daughter of a Reverend Pastor who inculcated the values of respect for human and authority.
