A team of reporters was in Kinding Njabi, Makénéné, in the Centre Region on July 24, 2016.
A workshop to train journalists on the fight against Bilharziasis or Schistosomiasis kicked off in Yaounde on July 23, 2016. The training, which brings together journalists from across the country, is organised by the National Programme for the Control of Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Helminithiasis in the Ministry of Public Health.
The major activity of the workshop is visit to transmission sites in three regions, notably in Nkolbisson and Draggages neigbourhoods of Yaounde, Kinding Njabi, Makénéné in the Centre Region, Edea, Littoral Region, Barombi Kotto and Barombi Mbo in the South West Region. Reporters were in Kinding Njabi on Sunday July 24, 2016. Bilharziasis has been eradicated in the locality, thanks to the efforts of the National Programme for the Control of Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Helminithiasis.
The Chief of Kinding Njabi, David Kinding thanked the Coordinator of the National Programme for the Control of Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Helminithiasis, Professor Louis-Albert Tchuem Tchenté, for his efforts in eradicating Bilharziasis in the locality. He also appreciated the efforts he is still making in the fight against the disease such as constructing a latrine in Government Primary School, Kinding Njabi, to prevent children from defecating in the open.
Prof. Tchuem Tchenté has also helped in the construction of wells in the village. The Coordinator of the National Programme for the Control of Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Helminithiasis warned Kinding Njabi villagers that even though the disease has eliminated, they have to continue practising good hygiene to avoid the propagation of other parasites like intestinal worms.
