They are Ali Annabel Laure, Muambo Rebecca and Essombe Tiako Emilienne.
It will be an all woman team that will be representing Cameroon at the 31st Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro comprising Ali Annabel Laure, Muambo Ndolo Rebecca and Essombe Tiako in the 75kg, 48kg and 53kg categories respectively. The most popular of the trio is however Ali Annabel Laure having been designated flag bearer of Cameroon during the last Olympic Games in London.
The nine times African champion was the first to qualify in the discipline during the Olympic qualifying event when she won a gold medal and will be in her third participation at the Olympics after having been present in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
Besides Ali Annabel Laure, Cameroon’s hope for medals in wrestling also lies on Muambo Ndolo Rebecca. She competed in the women's freestyle 48 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a bronze medal, an experience that could be of help to her at the Olympics. More so, she benefited from an Olympic scholarship to train in Senegal in preparation for the Rio Olympics.
The only irk on her participation is the little injury she sustained during training which may affect her performance if she doesn’t recover before August 17th when she is expected to compete. Ndolo Rebecca has been three times African champion and emerged second during the Olympic qualifying event.
Essombe Tiako is the youngest of the trio and will be in her maiden participation in the world class event like the Olympics. She rose to the limelight during the Olympic qualifying event when she emerged second and could be the surprise guest on the podium during the Rio Olympics. She will be competition in the 53kg category.
